KUALA LUMPUR, 11 May 2018 – The Malaysian Association of
Hotels (MAH) Gala Dinner, Hotel Employee & Management Awards 2018 was held
at One World Hotel where over 700 guests including General Managers of hotels
nationwide, industry partners and hospitality players were present. The event that
featured ASTRO as Official TV/Entertainment Partner and Maxis as the Official Telco
was graced by the presence of YBhg. Dato’ Dr Siew Ka Wei, Chairman of Tourism
Malaysia.
The MAH Hotel Employee
Awards 2018 where it is now in its 5th edition, was here once again to
recognize the best guest service professional of the industry. Held once every
two years, twelve finalists were selected from best of the best across the nation.
They were required to go through final interview session with three esteemed
judges from the industry led by Datuk Tan Kok Liang, President of The Malaysian
Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA).
The National Champion who
received RM5,000 cash prize, a trophy and a certificate was Irean Ho Shuw Yee representing
Sabah & Labuan from Cititel Express Kota Kinabalu.
Also
for the first time ever, the MAH Hotel Management Grand Prix Awards was
announced. The first management grand challenge in Malaysia for hoteliers to
compete regional and nationwide, the competition assessed the teams on various
managerial skills such as management, decision making, team building,
problem-solving and communication against other teams. The top 3 from nine teams
were announced and received a cash prize of RM1,000.
Legoland Hotel was crowned
Champion and received the Executive Development Programme by Taylor’s
University worth RM20,000, a challenge trophy and a certificate.
First Runner Up, who
received Certified Hospitality Programme from MAHTEC Sdn Bhd worth RM13,000 and
a certificate, was The Waterfront Hotel from Kuching, Sarawak. Second Runner Up
won by Avillion Admiral Cove received medal and certificate.
MAH President, Cheah Swee
Hee (Sam) said that “MAH has been organising the Hotel Employee Awards to
recognize outstanding employees since 2010 and this has been one of our ways to
develop and nurture the talents we have in our hospitality and service
industry”
“These two prestigious
awards set us ahead of the industry in driving excellence of not just only
service but also management skills much needed in ensuring success in the evolving
tourism industry” he added.
